First Person View
First Person View (FPV) drone flying is an exhilarating and immersive way to experience remote-controlled drone flight. Unlike traditional drone piloting, where the operator controls the drone by looking at it from a third-person perspective, FPV allows the pilot to see the flight from the drone's perspective in real time.
FPV drones are equipped with a small camera mounted on the front of the drone, which captures the live video feed of the drone's surroundings. This video feed is then transmitted wirelessly to a set of goggles or a monitor worn by the pilot. The pilot gets a first-person view of what the drone "sees," creating a sense of being inside the drone and piloting it from a cockpit-like perspective. This real-time video feedback enables pilots to navigate the drone at high speeds, perform acrobatic manoeuvres, and explore environments with a unique perspective.
However, it's important to note that FPV flying requires practice, skill, and adherence to safety guidelines. Pilots must maintain visual line-of-sight with the drone, fly in approved areas, and respect privacy and airspace regulations.

In addition to the built-in camera used for FPV flight, FPV drones often have the capability to carry an external camera as a payload, which allows pilots to capture high-quality footage during their flights.
The main advantage of using an external camera is the ability to capture professional-grade footage with superior image quality, resolution, and stabilization. These cameras often support higher resolutions, such as 4K or even 8K, allowing for incredibly detailed and sharp video recordings. The use of gimbals further enhances the stability of the footage, resulting in smoother and more cinematic shots.
When piloting an FPV drone with an external camera, the video feed from the drone's built-in camera is still used for FPV flying, providing the pilot with a real-time view for navigation. Simultaneously, the external camera captures the usable footage, which is stored on an onboard memory card or transmitted wirelessly to a ground station for live viewing or recording.
This setup gives pilots the best of both worlds: the immersive experience of FPV flight and the ability to capture stunning footage from a high-quality external camera. It opens up a wide range of creative possibilities for aerial photography, cinematography, and even professional applications like surveying and inspection.
